Orangeskies – Are you Addicted to Life and Music?

Ragazze sexy e benvestite, chitarre a trapano, gente che salta e si arrampica, sudore, basettoni e garage rock. Questo il sunto della serata di sabato con uno dei gruppi più famosi del sixties revival italiano anni ’80, i Sick Rose, e del loro breve concerto al Mads di Roma, cui ha fatto seguito l’esibizione di Dom Mariani degli Stems, mito dell’aussie garage accompagnato dagli stessi torinesi.
Luca Re dalla platea sembra talmente giovane da aver fatto un patto col diavolo, e dopo un inizio un po’ arrugginito mostra ottima presenza scenica e una voce ancora degna della sua fama, con i classici degli anni ’80 in primo piano, da “Get Along Girl” in giù; la band poi spinge di brutto con la ritmica, e infatti restiamo un po’ delusi quando dopo una decina di pezzi scarsa lasciano la scena a Dom Mariani, che io conoscevo solo vagamente di nome. Però, in pratica, visto che Re e soci fanno da band di supporto, anche dopo è come sentire i Sick Rose con in più dei riff di chitarra mozzafiato: Mariani, infatti, dopo un avvio anche per lui anonimo, infila una serie di pezzi killer che farebbero saltare anche una mummia (infatti balla anche il mio amico Ernst con un piede infortunato dalle Clark), compresa una versione molto sixties di “Day Tripper” e l’ottima “Sad Girl” in chiusura. Peccato essere troppo sobri per questa musica.
Nonostante il gran caldo del Mads, il bello però viene dopo, quando il locale si affolla di ballerini/e veramente stilosi, e nonostante alcuni sfregatori di inguini un po’ molesti e qualche merda che mi butta un bicchiere d’alcol sul maglione incustodito, è davvero divertente per una volta vedere una vera folla che balla musica sixties nel caldo torrido da club londinese, vestita in modo adeguato e con la giusta attitudine, invece di lobotomizzarsi con la solita robaccia elettronica. Beh, sì va beh lo so, ogni tanto si può ballare anche quella, ma vuoi mettere?

Sexy and well dressed girls, drill guitars, people jumping and climbing, sweat, big whiskers and garage rock. That’s the resume of last Saturday’s night with one of the most famous bands of the Italian sixties revival from the eighties, the Sick Rose, and their short concert at the Mads in Rome, followed by the set of Dom Mariani from the Stems, a myth of the aussie garage rock, accompanied by the same Turinese guys.
From the audience, Luca Re seems to be so young that he must made an agreement with the devil, and after a rusty start shows an awesome frontman attitude and still a great voice, with the 80s classics on top, first of all “Get along girl” followed by all the others; also the band pushes very strong with the rhythm session, and in fact we’re a bit disappointed when after less than a dozen of songs they leave the stage introducing Dom Mariani, who I knew vaguely and just for his name.
But, practically, since Re and the others are his support band, it’s just like listen more to the Sick Rose with the addition of breathtaking guitar riffs: Mariani, despite of another anonymous start, played a line of killer songs who could make a mummy dance (in fact also my friend Ernst jumped, even with a foot injured by his own Clark shoes), including a very sixties version of “Day Tripper” and the wonderful “Sad Girl” to close the set. Pity we’re too sober for this kind of music.
Despite of the really hot temperature at the Mads, the best was yet to come, and it has started when the club began to be crowded by a lot of really stylish dancers, and even if there were some annoying groin scratchers and one piece of shit who threw a glass of something alcoholic on my unguarded sweater, it has been really funny, for once, to see a real crowd dancing to sixties music in a warm atmosphere that reminds me of a London club, dressed in a proper way and with the right attitude, instead of being lobotomized by the common electro rubbish. Well, yes I know, once in a while you can also dance to that shit, but there definitely is no comparison.
